The Author: Kurt, is presently attending UC Santa Barbara/ Trumpet Player/Scholarship

The prosthesis is helpful in almost every aspect of living. The prosthesis enables me to do pull ups and push ups, both of which would have been impossible without.More importantly, my prosthesis improves my ability to play every avenue of sport including baseball, basketball, football, Foosball, hockey, and Frisbee.Swimming is an enormous hassle without my prosthesis; however, with is no challenge at all.My life is being made as a trumpet player. I require my prosthesis to hold the trumpet while I use my free hand to push on the valves and move the slides. Without my prosthesis I would not be attending UC Santa Barbara at all, as I was accepted with a Music/Trumpet Scholarship. I would be pursuing an entirely different career.I tie knots (whether rope or my shoes), fold my laundry, lift heavy objects, and hold the cereal bowl while I eat breakfast in the morning all with the assistance of my prosthetic. Yes I could manage those tasks without one, but the prosthetic enables me to be faster, more efficient, and more coordinated at them. I work as a stage technician in the music department at my school. I move sets, open curtains, and pull high wiring all with the assistance of my prosthetic arm.It is an undeniably crucial part of my life to own and wear a prosthesis every day; the cosmetic side is purely a bonus.Anyone who tries and dislikes the prosthetic has not invested enough time and practice into realizing it's true potential. The younger a child is given a prosthetic, the faster they will adapt with it and improve their lifestyle.
